Super Ghetto
January 8, 2024
Hey everyone! Sorry it has been so long since I emailed, but I am alive and well hahaha! I guess I'll cut right to the chase, however, I was transferred a week or two ago to central/eastern Phoenix in a ghetto bike area! I was definitely sad to be leaving the YSA and the West Valley, especially only after 2 transfers but I guess God needed me somewhere else. My new area is the Osborn ward, and apparently it is the 2nd most ghetto area in the entire mission haha! I'm also only like 20 minutes from my baby ward which is pretty cool. I'm basically redoing my training for the 2nd half of my mission. My new companion is Elder Alley. He has been out for about 5 months, and I am still a district leader. Elder Alley is awesome and the district is pretty awesome so I'm having a pretty fun time!
I have 27th Avenue in my area, which is sometimes called "The Blade '' and has one of the highest crime rates in the US.😁 I have already seen a whole bunch of stuff, and there's prostitutes that just walk around at nights on 27th, so it's definitely a roller coaster. Anyways, its a pretty good time. But maybe I am just being a pretty princess or something but it is stinking cold here haha. I know its nowhere near as cold as home, but its been in like low 40s and 50s, and it gets down to 29 and 33 in the mornings. Biking around has been a little chilly, and I'm having to wear a coat and a sweater and stuff. I also have like no room to complain, as I have buddies in like -15 right now but sheesh, when I go home and try to go skiing, I am going to freeze my little buns off.
I am currently in my 9th transfer, and I will have 7 more after that. I know that both me and every other missionary says this, but it really is crazy how fast time flies out here. The work is just so incredible too. We have some awesome people we are teaching and we put our friend Derek on date for the 27th, and he should be baptized. He came to church again and just loved it.
We have had some incredible miracles that I would love to share but I just don't have time, so I will share one. Last night my comp and I were going over to the bishops for a visit, and since we were in a nicer part of our area, we figured we could just lock our bikes together on his driveway behind their civic. So we lock them, and then head inside for the visit. When we come out, the bikes are just gone! We were like how in the world did this just happen? We were in the front living room the whole time and would've heard them being moved if someone tried to take them, yet we didn't notice anything. We looked around for a sec and found them on the OTHER side of their truck, in the dark, kind of hiding. So we have no clue how they got moved or who did it, but they did silently, and moved them to a safer hiding spot. Was it an angel? A person? who knows. Either way, the time that we spent looking for the bikes allowed us to barely notice an old man who was outside for like 10 seconds as we biked past. We felt inspired to go knock his door, and he knows who the Bishop is and everything and said it was too late but that we could come back during the day sometime, so that was cool.
Anyways, life is good! I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here. The Lord lives and he loves you!
Love,
Elder Cozzens
